When was the last time you had a family portrait done? Can’t remember? The first family portrait with my family that I remember having done was back in 1990, we had just arrived in Canada, and my mom thought we should decorate our walls with a family portrait! To this day, she still has that photo hanging on her wall, and my sister and I still have a good laugh at our clothing and hair styles every time we look at it… It’s fun to reminisce about those days! Family portraits have come a long way since then, and people are more willing to experiment with new styles, and locations, to achieve a more relaxed feel, that will better reflect your family’s personality! A few weeks ago, we were spoiled with summer weather, and now back to the reality of a Canadian spring! I must say that I am bias to Spring. We got married in the spring, and started Bphotographed in the spring, you know what they say, Spring means new beginnings! We live in a beautiful country, and embracing a Canadian winter, even if it was a mild one this year, is definitely the way to go. Don’t get me wrong I like to escape to a warm country in the middle of our winter just as much as the next guy, but at least we can say we have all four seasons, and we can enjoy them all in the great Canadian outdoors! Jenn and Chris wanted a winter engagement session, so of course this year, we had to have a mild winter…  : ) Jenn and Chris were so anxious that they were not going to able to get their wintery photos, that they were almost prepared to settle, and then mother nature cooperated, and sent one final snowfall, and voila, we got to work! Thank you Jenn and Chris for choosing us for your special day, we can’t wait for your fall wedding! Congratulations from Cris and Sandra…

Winter weather is usually unpredictable, except maybe for the fact that it’s usually cold. This winter was definitely a mild one; however, because we were shooting a winter wedding, and I dislike the cold, on February 11th, 2012 Katharine and Derek said “I Do” on the coldest day of the year… it figures : )  I must say though that I was really impressed with the fact that these two were so determined to brave the cold, simply to take advantage of the gorgeous sunshine, and the even more beautiful snow that fell just the night before. Canadian winters may sometime be treacherous, but I absolutely love to photograph in the winter, it seems the cold gives people a different glow, or maybe it’s just the blushing bride thing : ) 

Congratulations Katharine and Derek on your marriage, and thank you so much for choosing us to be a part of your special day, we are truly blessed.

Trash the dress sessions are a huge amount of fun, even though to a bride it can be a little daunting! Fear not dear ones, the “trash the dress” name unfortunately does not do justice to the amount of fun you will have with this awesome photo shoot. Typically it would be done after your wedding day, where the nerves are gone, relaxation is kicking in, and to top it off you get to wear your dress again : ) that’s a huge bonus if you ask me… Kassandra was one of those brides, she wore a gorgeous Vera Wang gown, so “trashing it” was the last thing on her mind, it took a little convincing, and up until the time of entering the ocean she was still nervous about it! But after looking at the photos below you will agree with me, the same way she did, it will be best decision you’ll make! A trash the dress session does not have to consist of rolling in the sand and getting wet, which is why with Kassandra and Daniel we spent a good portion of the time walking around the resort and getting shots in locations that on the wedding day we never had a chance to do, because of timing. We had such an amazing time with these two and their families in Punta Cana, and now they have these amazing shots to show off to their friends. Thank you Kassandra and Daniel for having us, and for being so brave and going along with us and our vision, we really are blessed for having met you all. 

Maricel & Patrick are a super cute couple! They were a little nervous about the engagement session, and a little shy, but that didn’t last long… Engagement sessions are great ice breakers, that’s one the main reasons we encourage them. Planning a wedding can be stressful, and having to worry about your photographer, or how your photos are going to turn out, can drive a couple nuts. An engagement session can be that time when you get to know your photographer, and vice versa. It’s a time for experimenting with looks, especially for the brides, that often get their hair and makeup trials done for engagement photos, new poses, this is usually for the grooms that often feel awkward about posing for photographers, and best of all new locations! Maricel and Patrick wanted their engagement photos done at McMichael Art Gallery, but we had never shot there, so to us it was an awesome opportunity to discover a new location, and since then we have recommended it to other couples. We are very excited to photograph Maricel and Patrick’s wedding coming up in June of this year, and can’t thank them enough for choosing us!

Kassandra and Daniel said their I Do’s in sunny and hot Punta Cana, Dominican Republic! I must admit that destination weddings are awesome, but even more so when at the end of a super busy wedding season! Those of you that follow our blog may recognize some the faces on this post, here’s Kassandra and Daniel’s engagement again, and we have shot Daniel’s sisters wedding, as well as, most recently Daniel’s brother Josh, and his now wife Chantelle. We totally loved Punta Cana, the weather was simply amazing, and we really enjoyed spending some time with this awesome family! Kassandra was simply gorgeous in a stunning Vera Wang gown, that fit her like a glove, and does anyone else think she looks like Ashley Tisdale, just sayin’! Her make up was done by the super talented Aryn Ashley, and I must say, she was WOW! Kassandra and Daniel decided to get married on the beach, even though the resort had  a very nice wedding gazebo on the grounds, I think the beach was a better choice. We had so much fun on this trip, and are truly looking forward to the next destination wedding. We really had some fun with them as you’ll see, but my most favourite shot is definitely the last one, we took that one at about midnight, Daniel and Kassandra were exhausted, but I think it was so worth it. Thank you so much to the Zeng family for bringing us along, we are truly blessed to have met you all, and to be able to spend this awesome week with you.

We first met Rita and Maz at a bridal show, and instantly hit it off, we talked forever about everything that they had planned. They told us later that, as they walked away they told each other they had just found their photographers : )

Planning a wedding can be stressful, but for Rita and Maz it may have been a little more than most. They were contestants on The Last Bride Standing, so certain parts of planning a wedding were put on hold until the contest was over, just in case they won the big prize; but since they won second prize, which is still AWESOME, they had to get in gear and book all the vendors they had on hold; luckily everything worked out in the end.  We had so much fun shooting their engagement session, by far the longest one in bphotographed history, but I’ll let you see for yourself how they turned out.  We are super excited for their wedding in October 2012, thanks SO much for having us…

Chantelle and Josh were a pleasure to photograph. We met the Zeng family 3 years ago when we photographed Aryn and Nathan’s wedding, the groom’s sister, and as I’m writing this post we have shot Daniel’s wedding as well! They are a truly awesome family, very genuine people that love life and each other. Chantelle and Josh are super cute together. She was a nervous wreck that day, even though she hid it quite well, and Josh, well if he was nervous he didn’t show it. Marriage is a wonderful God given covenant that should not be taken lightly, and it’s refreshing to see such a young couple that understands the concept so well. Thank you so much Chantelle and Josh for inviting us to share in your very special day, we wish you a lifetime of happiness.

Jenny and Gavin got hitched on a  beautiful day in October. Midland is such a pretty town, it reminds of our dating years, when we would go camping to La Fontaine, and drive into to Midland harbour and watch the sunset with an ice cream. It was our first time at Discovery Harbour, and I was truly impressed! It has a lot of history behind it and it makes for a beautiful backdrop. Congratulations to Jenny and Gavin, thank you for having us, and we wish you all the best.

We were first introduced to Belcroft Estates in the fall of 2007, while shooting a wedding there, and we instantly fell for it! It’s an awesome array of vintage flair, with the country chic feel of the barn reception venue, and excellent locations for photography. Jim Bell, the owner of Belcroft Estates, is a collector of everything vintage, and he likes to display it, making this an awesome venue if you’re planning a vintage inspired wedding yourself. We met Ashley & Ryan at Christie and Marty’s wedding, that we shot last year; Ashley was the maid of honour and we hit it off immediately, and then we got to meet the whole family at their engagement / family photo session, check it out here again, needless to say we had a blast! Ashley and Ryan said “I DO” on a rainy day in September, but nothing was going to hold them back from enjoying their special day, especially not the rain; the ceremony had to be moved inside; however, I think it added to the country charm… We truly believe that all the little details are what make a day that much more special, and Ashley and Ryan did an awesome job of putting this day together, it was sincerely amazing, look at the images below and you can see for yourself.
